Natural Stone and Quartz Disclaimer
Granite, and other types of stone, are products of nature.  These surfaces will have unique colors and characteristics that can only be found in a natural stone.  All natural stone surfaces are subject variation in color, veining, and texture (i.e.: pits, fissures, and fragmentation).  These characteristics will vary from color to color, but will be a part of the finished product.

Natural stone countertops, as well as quartz countertops, will require seams.  These seams will be visible and can be felt.  All natural stones react differently during the fabrication process, which can cause variations in the size and appearance of the seams.  You will also have visible seams where laminations occur.  Lamination is a process in which two pieces of granite or quartz are glued together to create a thicker and more massive appearance on the front edge of the countertop.  Natural stone varies in cut, length, and thickness from slab to slab, this makes the seaming and lamination process very difficult to keep uniform.  You will have variations in the appearance of your seams and laminated front edge within your kitchen and/or bathroom countertops.

There are many considerations that need to be factored into the location and number of seams put in a countertop.  For this reason the quantity and location of seams is at the sole discretion of Chris & Dicks.

Natural stone countertops are sealed at the time of manufacturing and installation in order to reduce the porosity of the stone.  Natural stone countertops should be resealed every 1 to 2 years, depending on the sealer used as well as the usage of the countertop. Countertops and seams will be susceptible to staining and discoloration regardless of the seal and how often it is applied.  The sealant used on your natural stone countertops is simply a temporary shield that breaks down over time.  Countertops should be cleaned immediately after cooking or when a spill occurs to avoid staining.

When caring for natural stone or quartz countertops on a day to day basis, we advise using a combination of neutral cleaning agent, such as antibacterial dishwashing soap with water.  You may also purchase one of the widely available natural stone cleaning products on the market.  Do not use acidic, abrasive, wax or bleach based cleaners in any form on your natural stone countertops.

We suggest the following precautions regardless of the type of countertop surface you choose:

  • Always use a cutting board when cutting and preparing food
  • Always use hot pads as a barrier between your countertop and hot pots or pans, including crockpots, electric pans, and any bottom heating appliance

While Chris & Dicks does warrant the fabrication and installation services provided on your new countertops for a period of 2yrs.  I have read and understand that Chris & Dicks is not responsible to warrant or replace my natural stone, or quartz countertops for any reason mentioned in this disclaimer.  I also understand that natural stone countertops will contain imperfections and that there is no warranty on the stone.  There are warranties offered on quartz material through the manufacturer for the brand of quartz you selected.  Should you have an issue with the quartz material used for your countertops, you will need to initiate a claim with the manufacturing company.

Marble Disclaimer
Marbles are made up primarily of calcite crystal. Due to their mineralogical makeup, all marbles are vulnerable to abrasion or chemical damage. Scratching could occur from common kitchen utensils. Lemon juice, tomatoes, vinegar, and any other acidic solutions would etch the surface, removing the finish and damaging the stone. Although Red Wine is the most commonly feared liquid near a marble kitchen, foods that have acidic and oily qualities are usually more harmful because oil acts as a carrier into the stone. Salad dressing and Marinades are common culprits.
